Following pregnancy or weight loss the skin on the abdomen can loose its elasticity.
This is typically seen as looser skin, with or without stretch marks, that can sag down. When the skin is pinched away from the body is no longer snaps back as it once did.
The degree to which this loosness effects the abdomen largely dictates its treatment.

If the looseness only effects the lower abdomen up to the belly button, then surgery in the form of a mini tummy tuck is performed. This can be performed in conjuction with additional liposuction or surgically reducing the gap between the abdominal muscles called rectus plication.
If the looseness extends beyond the belly button then a full abdominoplasty is performed. Again, this can be performed with the above additional procedures.
If looseness of skin extends round to the back of a patient, to the love handle (flank area), the full abdominoplasty can be extended to include the back in a 360 body lift. This can also be staged into two separate operations.
